South Africa
Here you will learn everything you need to know about the drone laws in South Africa.
Overview:
Do not fly within a radius of 5 km from airfields and heliports
Do not fly higher than 45 m
Keep a distance of 50 m from people and buildings
Do not fly in National Parks
There must always be visual line of sight to the drone
The drone must weigh less than 7 kg
In Detail:
In South Africa, flying is only allowed during the day and in good weather. As a rule, the drone may fly up to 45 m, unless there is a higher object within a radius of 300 m, in which case the flight altitude may be adjusted to the height of the object. Commercial flights in South Africa require a long approval process. You have to register first and need a lot of different documents. You also need a pilot’s license. More information can be found on the official website and this Powerpoint presentation. In any case, South Africa needs sufficient insurance cover for drone flying.
Exceptions:
If you want to fly outside these rules, you have to report directly to the responsible South African authorities.
