United Kingdom
Here you will learn everything you need to know about the drone laws in the United Kingdom.
Overview:
Do not fly near airfields and aircraft.
Every drone must be registered and marked with an Operator ID.
Flights are only allowed up to 120 m vertically and up to 500 m horizontally.
Fly at least 150 m away from crowds and conurbations
There must always be visual line of sight to the drone
To be allowed to fly the drone a test has to be completed.
In Detail:
From the 30th November 2019 it will be necessary to register every drone; this will be possible online beginning the 5th of November on this website. To register the drone, you must be 18 years old and pay a fee of 9£. Once you have received an “Operator ID”, it must be visible on the drone and is valid for one year. The ID can be used for several drones. In addition, everyone who wants to fly a drone must also have a flyer ID. This ID is available online free of charge via multiple choice test for all persons aged 13 and over (under 13 years, flying is only possible when accompanied by a parent or guardian) (16/20 questions must be answered correctly in order to pass). The Flyer ID is valid for 3 years. It is always necessary to keep a distance of 50 m to all people and buildings. The use in the vicinity of police operations and rescue forces is indirectly prohibited, because one may not fly in the vicinity of airplanes and helicopters and these are often used with rescue operations. Flying in the vicinity of such missions should be avoided in any case, as it violates the privacy of other people. Respect for privacy is, as always, a top priority and must not be disregarded. You should also check whether your insurance covers flying the drone. If you want to use your drone commercially, you should also fill in additional forms, more about this on the website of the British Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The exact prohibition zones in the vicinity of airports are somewhat unclear. The CAA graphic illustrates the zones somewhat. These apps are recommended by the CAA. The official map of the airfields is also helpful.
Exceptions:
If you want to fly near an airfield or other forbidden zones, you have to ask the responsible persons individually.
